Effective Communication Skills

Communication sounds so simple: say what you mean. But all too often, what we try to communicate gets lost in translation despite our best intentions. We say one thing, the other person hears something else, and misunderstandings, frustration, and conflicts ensue. This two day effective communication course combines a set of skills including non-verbal communication, engaged listening, managing stress in the moment, the ability to communicate assertively, and the capacity to recognise and understand your own emotions and those of the person you are communicating with.

Typical topics you will cover include:

  • Know how to use the communication cycle
  • Identify your personality drivers and how to use them to communicate effectively
  • Use transactional analysis to successfully combine empathy and assertiveness
  • Recognise the barriers to communication and how to overcome them
  • Recognise stress triggers that prevent effective communication
  • Practise active listening skills
  • Know how to adapt your communication style to influence and persuade others
  • Understand cognitive bias and how it affects effective communication
  • Conduct effective meetings; provide effective feedback

Start dates flexible throughout the year and there will be a mix of classroom and workplace learning
