Learning at Work Week

18-24 May 20

By Selina Chiarelli, RHG Education and Training Professional Lead and Internal Quality Assurer

Following Mental Health Awareness Week, which encourages us to take action to support our wellbeing, Learning at Work Week gives us a chance to reflect on how learning can also play a part in that by building confidence, resilience and stronger connections at work.

This year’s theme, “Many Ways to Learn”, gets us thinking about what learning really means and, just as importantly, where it happens.

What does learning look like to you?

For some people, learning means a structured course or qualification. For others, it’s a conversation with a colleague, a challenge on the job, or a moment of reflection when something hasn’t quite gone to plan.

At RHG, we believe learning isn’t a one off event. It happens in everyday conversations, shared experiences and the support we give one another.

Learning beyond the traditional

Learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms or online modules. More often, it shows up in everyday moments: when a manager gives thoughtful feedback, when a colleague shares their experience, when someone puts new skills into practice, or when a coach asks exactly the right question at the right time. Those moments matter because they’re immediate, relevant and personal. That’s what makes them stick.

Some of the most valuable learning comes from the people around us.

Amber’s words capture something simple but important that learning grows through connection. When we stay open to other people’s ideas and experiences, we create opportunities to develop in ways that formal learning on its own sometimes can’t.

A shared responsibility

A key message behind this year’s theme is that learning is everyone’s responsibility.

For learners, that means staying open, curious and willing to step outside your comfort zone. For managers and employers, it means creating an environment where learning is encouraged, supported and genuinely valued. And for coaches and teams, it means guiding, challenging and celebrating progress along the way.

When those things come together, learning becomes more than an activity it becomes part of the culture.

What helps people learn?

Often, the most effective ways to support learning are also the most straightforward.

Whether it’s making space for reflection, encouraging questions or offering timely feedback, small and consistent actions can have a real impact on how people learn and grow.

The RHG approach

At RHG, we recognise that every learner is different, and there’s no single path to success.

We support individuals and organisations by adapting to different learning preferences, offering practical, real-life support, encouraging reflection and growth, and linking learning directly to workplace impact.

At RHG, we support learning in lots of different ways because we know one size never fits all. From GROW Academy workshops on topics such as time management, mindfulness and being socially responsible, to bite-sized micro eLearning available through our website, we aim to make learning practical, flexible and relevant.

If you’re thinking about how to create more meaningful learning in your organisation, RHG can help. Whether that’s through workshops, eLearning, apprenticeships or courses we’d love to talk about how we can support.

When learning feels relevant, it’s far more likely to stay with us and when it does, it can lead to real change.

Why it matters

Investing in learning isn’t only about gaining knowledge. It’s about building confidence, unlocking potential, improving performance and helping teams become more resilient and adaptable. For organisations, that leads to stronger outcomes. For individuals, it can open the door to new opportunities.

A moment to reflect

As we mark Learning at Work Week, it’s worth taking a moment to ask yourself:

  • How do I learn best?
  • When was the last time I learned something new at work?
  • How can I support someone else’s learning journey?

Sometimes, the smallest shift in mindset can have the biggest impact.

Get involved

There are lots of ways to take part: start a conversation in your team about learning, share your experiences and insights, or simply try something new, however small.

At RHG, we’d love to hear how you’re bringing “Many Ways to Learn” to life and continuing the conversation in your workplace.

Let’s keep learning together!

Learning doesn’t stop at the end of the week. It continues in everyday moments, across every role and at every level of an organisation.

This Learning at Work Week, let’s celebrate the many ways we learn and the even greater impact we can make when we earn together.
