Celebrating World Youth Skills Day-Empowering Young People for Peace and Development
On July 15th, the world comes together to celebrate World Youth Skills Day, a day that highlights the importance of equipping young people with the skills for employment, meaningful work, and entrepreneurship, as well as addressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development.
As RHG marks this special day, we reflect on this year’s theme of Youth Skills for Peace and Development. This year’s theme emphasises the crucial role that young people play in building peace and conflict resolution. It is essential to recognise that young people are not only affected by conflicts but also have the potential to be the drivers of peace.
The world faces numerous challenges that affect young people, including violent conflicts disrupting education and stability, an online environment spreading negativity, and persistent economic inequality limiting opportunities. These issues threaten not only individual futures but also the overall stability of societies. It is crucial to provide youth with the necessary skills to adopt a culture of peace, nurture responsible global citizens, and promote sustainable development.
As we celebrate World Youth Skills Day, we are reminded of the importance of providing young people with the skills and opportunities to address these challenges and contribute to a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future.
So, what skills do young people need to succeed in today’s world? Some of the most sought-after skills include:
Digital literacy– Being able to use technology and digital tools to stay competitive
Problem-solving– Being able to analyse complex problems and come up with effective solutions
Communication– Being able to effectively communicate with others, both verbally and written
Adaptability– Being able to adapt quickly to new situations and technologies
Leadership– Being able to inspire and motivate others to work towards a common goal
At RHG, we believe that these skills are essential for young people to succeed. That’s why we offer a range of free GROW workshops, covering topics such as an ‘Introduction to Project Management’, ‘Being Socially Responsible’, ‘Presenting with Confidence’, ‘Time Management Techniques’ and many more. As you celebrate World Youth Skills Day, ask yourself:
What can I do today to develop my own skills?
How can I support others in developing their skills?
By working together, we can create a world where young people have the skills they need to succeed. Join us as we celebrate World Youth Skills Day and make a commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders and innovators.
Happy World Youth Skills Day!
