Many of our daily routines and holiday plans are affected by and revolve around the school summer holidays, so August tends to be the month, where annual leave is taken by many of us. But its still a month containing lots of interesting key dates on important topics that affect us all.
August also contains the final Bank Holiday before Christmas in England. The shelves will be stacked with Christmas goodies before we know it!
On a national level Allotment Week starts on the 11th. Allotments as we know them today, stem from the General Enclosure Act of 1845, set up for the poor who had no land of their own. Increasing in popularity during both World Wars, they are now in demand more than ever, with local authorities having long waiting lists. As we become more aware of the sustainability and health benefits of ‘growing your own’ this year the theme is Allotments and Well Being.
Another important topic this month, is addressing our ‘financial wellbeing’ highlighted by Financial Awareness Day on the 14th. Follow our socials to read our blog on the subject.
