June 2024
The Summer months are upon us, but even if the weather is not ‘playing ball’ the European Football Championships kick off on the 14th of this month in Germany. With International Cricket in full swing, as well as Royal Ascot coming up on the rails, there is a sport for everyone. But if sport really isn’t your thing then there are still a lot of key dates to cover in June.
We have selected a few topics below and will explore two in more detail, via our social media channels, in the form of dedicated blogs. First up will be World Environment Day, on 6th June. Globally at the top of most countries agenda, we can all play our part, however small, in protecting the planet for future generations.
Our dedicated Functional Skills coach, Claude, will also be focussing on National Writing Day, on 19th June. So do follow our social media channels to ensure you are kept completely up to date.
June is also Pride Month – Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969. Follow this link to read more and watch a video showing the story of the Stonewall riots in New York, 1969. Pride Month 2024: Origins, Parades & Dates | HISTORY
Our GROW Academy has Introduction to Project Management on the 19th June, so whether you are new to the subject, or want to brush up your skills, this is a great half day, free to attend webinar, run by our Learning Coach, Alex Primett.

June also includes the ‘longest day’ or Summer Solstice. The word solstice literally means “sun standing still.” It is derived from combining the Latin words sol for “sun” and sistere for “To Stand Still”.
The solstice is actually a moment in time, this year precisely Thursday 20 June at 21.51 BST.
