With the clocks moving back by one hour our evenings now draw in even earlier but the very first day of the month is lit up by the Hindu festival Diwali, the festival of lights.

We’ve assembled a diverse range of dates to read about this month, from security your digital identity to making your own Christmas Pudding! Dive in and have a read:

And finally, some other dates to note this month:

• Bandi Chhur Divas – November 1 – translates as ‘Prisoner Release Day’. On his release Guru Hargobind travelled to Amritsar, where Diwali was being celebrated. For this reason Bandi Chhor Divas often overlaps with Diwali. 
• Hindu: Diwali – November 1 – Observed by more than a billion people across faiths, this five-day festival of lights brings prayer, feasts, fireworks and, for some, a new year. Diwali is the Indian festival of lights. Here’s what to know about its history and customs.
• Christian: All Saints Day – November 1 -also called All Hallows, Hallowmas, and Feast of All Saints is held on November 1 each year and celebrates and honors all the Saints especially the Saints who are not honored on other days of the year. The day is preceded by All Saints’ Eve (Halloween) the night before and then the day after followed by All Souls Day.
• Guy Fawkes Night – November 5 – Also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Fireworks Night, is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, primarily in Great Britain, involving bonfires and fireworks displays.
• Remembrance Day – November 11 – The eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month marks Armistice Day, the point in time recognising the end of World War I.
