September 2023
The final Bank Holiday before Christmas passes us by and the long road to December is ahead of us. Hopefully, we’ve all had a little time to ‘stop’ over the Summer months or at least press ‘pause’.
So why not head into Autumn and all the wonderful colours it brings, by taking on a new challenge. Could be upping your steps, trying a new activity, or learning a new skill.
Our GROW Academy is running two quite diverse workshops this month; ‘Introduction to Project Management’ and ‘Mindfulness’ but both are great to support the apprenticeship journey in their own way. So why not try one, or both of these? You can register your free place here – https://www.rhgconsult.co.uk/virtual-workshops/
We’ve picked out a few dates of interest this month, which cover a variety of subjects, all enlightening in their own way. Maybe you can choose one to get involved with – reducing food waste is one we could all engage with.
Below are some more observances and their meanings:
Krishna Janmashtam (Hinduism) | 6-7th | An annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. It is observed according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in Shraavana or Bhadrapad. |
Rosh Hashanah (Judaism) | 15-17th | Rosh Hashanah is a special festival which celebrates Jewish New Year. It literally means ‘head of the year’. |
Autumn Equinox (Pagan) | 23rd | The autumn equinox is the moment when the sun is exactly above the Earth’s equator and day and night are of equal length. It occurs twice a year, once in March and once in September. |
Yom Kippur (Judaism) | 24-25th | Yom Kippur, “the day of atonement,” is the day Moses achieved complete forgiveness for the People of Israel after the Sin of the Golden Calf. In 2023 it begins before sundown on Sunday, Sept. 24, and ends the following evening, Monday, Sept. 25, after night has fallen. |
Mawlid al-Nabi (Islam) | 27th | Mawlid al-Nabi, Arabic for the “birthday of the prophet”, marks the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth. Some Muslims commemorate the event because of his significance in Islam. The faithful believe that the Quran, God’s final testament to mankind, was revealed to the prophet, and that he was the most important messenger sent to humanity. |
Ananta Chaturdashi (Jainism) | 28th | Ananta Chaturdashi is a festival dedicated to Vishnu, observed and celebrated by Hindus and Jains. It is marked on the fourteenth day of the moon’s waxing phase during the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. |
